Information we collect
Information You Provide to Us
Basic Account Information
When you create an account on our site, you will be asked for your name and email address.
We will use your email address to send you transactional and membership emails as needed. In addition, we may offer an optional opt-in email newsletter, which will always have an easy unsubscribe process.
We do not and will not sell your name and email address information to other parties. They will be shared only in the context of necessary operations for this site.
You can also optionally provide us with a mailing address. If you do so, that address will not be shared with any third parties, and we may use it occasionally only to send items directly to you. You can remove your address from your profile at any time.
If you choose to subscribe to our service, we will request sufficient information to process the financial transaction through our third-party payment processor, Stripe.com.
Of any credit card details you might enter, we store only the last four digits of your card and the expiration date to use as an identifying marker.
We do not store the actual credit card details on our site. In fact, during a payment transaction, only the server at Stripe.com ever sees those details. Our server receives only a unique token that we can use for future processing as needed.
We may offer the opportunity for you to post comments and discussions on the site, which will be visible to other users.
Whatever you post in a public forum will be available to other users, and to search engines in general. Use your own discretion in deciding what to post.
If you upload images to the website, you should be aware that images that you generate may included embedded location data. If this is a concern, you should learn how to disable the creation of this data in your camera or smartphone.
Communications with Us
If you contact us by email or using the Contact Us page on our site, we may retain those communications for future reference.
Information That We Collect Automatically
Our web server collects normal information about all interactions in a log data file. The data includes the date and time of each access, the IP address, and any referring information available from the link clicked to arrive at our site.
This information may be used by us from time to time to improve our services, or diagnose issues with the service.
We use Google Analytics to track our visitor activity. Google Analytics logs information about each visitor, and lets us see how the site is being utilized. The tracking information lets us see basic information about visitors to the site, and how long they are spending in each area.
For those who don’t want even this minimal level of tracking, Google also offers a complete opt-out tool that you can install in your browser. You can find it here.
Google Analytics Demographic Tracking
To further strengthen our privacy protections, as of March 15, 2021 we no longer allow Google Analytics to do any extra demographic tracking. In addition, our Analytics configuration discards the last 8 bits of your IP address to further anonymize your use of the site.
We do not directly provide any personal information about our users to Google or any other advertiser. The data provided is only that which is generated by your browser through your visits to our site. If you so choose, the same Google-provided opt-out mechanisms are effective for preventing their collection of demographic data.
In addition to the usage via Google Analytics, We use browser cookies to track some of your activity on our site including the option to remember your login information between visits.
Social Network Tracking
If you stay logged in to your Facebook account or accounts with other social network providers, be aware that these companies commonly track your visits across the Internet.
This tracking is enabled by your browser when it encounters content or login buttons for those social networks on whatever site where they may exist, including this one.
Logging in via Facebook or Google
This site may offer the ability to use your account information at Facebook, Google or other Internet providers to ease the process of creating an account here, and subsequently logging in to your account.
If you use that function, we will have access to the information disclosed to you at the time of linking your account with this site. We will use this information only as needed to administer our site here.
Whether you use that function or not, if your browser is logged into Facebook or the other providers at the time of your visit, those providers can and will collect some tracking information about your visit.
Who we share your data with
We have attempted to detail every third party that will receive any of your data in the descriptions above. It is possible that as the site evolves, additional third-party services may be utilized to enhance our offering.
In every case, our basic principle is quite simple... We will attempt to share as little data as is practical to administer our site and offer our services to you.
How Long Do We Retain Your Information
In general, once you create an account on our site, we will retain the information you provide for the life of the site. If in the future you choose to remove your account, we will make our best effort to remove your information.
Be aware that in some cases, such as comments that you made in discussions, it is possible that your contributions will remain if they form an integral part of the discussion.
We will make a common sense assessment in determining our policy in these cases.
If you have specific questions about our policy in this regard, please contact us.
Log data is generally retained for two years, and in special cases it could be longer.
How Do We Protect Your Data
This site is hosted in the United States and uses encryption for all communications with our server. This includes your browser connection to our server, as well as the connections our server makes to third party processors for data or payment processing.
We use our best efforts to protect our server and infrastructure from data breaches and data exposure, including frequent software updates, monitoring of logs, and daily backups.
Terms and Conditions
Your use of this site is also governed by our Terms and Conditions.
